One Van, to 70 Events, 550 Riders

For years, “Adventure Betty” has carried kids and towed a 14-bike trailer to trails across Santa Cruz and Monterey counties. Many of our riders had never ridden in a redwood forest before. Since 2012, Betty has been at every event.

We need a new Betty!

7 Passenger Van or SUV

Betty has passed 155,000 miles and earned her retirement. We’re looking for a vehicle that:

1) Seats 7, including the driver (and is designed for no more than 10)

2) Is rated to tow at least 2,500 lb

3) Is reliable, with several years of life left

4) Has a clean title (maintenance records a big plus)

Minivans, SUVs, and passenger vans that meet the above are all welcome

Questions?

Is my vehicle donation tax-deductible?

Yes! Community Bike Collective is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. You may claim donations, including vehicles, as a deduction if you itemize. You may be able to deduct the full fair market value of your vehicle because, instead of selling it, we will use it in our youth riding program. Please check with your tax advisor for full information; see IRS Publication 4303 for details.

What documentation will I receive?

We will provide IRS Form 1098-C and a written acknowledgment for the donation within 30 days of the donation.

What documentation do I need to provide?

  • Valid vehicle title, free of liens.
  • For vehicles valued over $500 (and if claiming a tax deduction), you must file IRS Form 8283 with your federal tax return. Community Bike Collective must sign Section B, Part V.
  • For vehicles valued over $5,000, you will also need a qualified independent appraisal obtained within 60 days before the donation

Why can’t you take a 12- or 15-passenger van?

California treats a nonprofit vehicle designed to carry more than 10 people as a bus, which requires a commercial license. Our volunteer drivers don’t hold one.

I own a business or dealership; can I help?

Yes, please. A discounted trade-in, a fleet vehicle being rotated out, or help finding the right vehicle would make a big difference. We’re glad to thank partners publicly.

What will happen to Betty?

Betty will go to the next worthy organization that needs her!
